ATMOSPHERIC AIR QUALITY AND POLLUTION IN GEORGIA

Summary

The polluted air is the main and very often an unvisible killer  with which every ninth death is connected.

The high quality of life depends on the high quality of air.

The best standart to measure pollutants in air is  Air Quality Index- AQI.

Air quality in Georgia does not coin-side with the norms stated by EuroUnion.

Atmospheric pollution is very high in our country and the legislation is even far from EU standarts. It is important that as a result of cooperation with European Enviromental Agency (EEA) the air quality data  of Georgia at European portage became possible constantly.

On the basic of 2020 data Air Quality index in Georgia was moderate AQI- 68, but PM2,5 concentration was twice as much relative to the recommendation of World Health care Organizations.

As a whole the air pollution is associated with the death of yearly 3,741 people on average.

Air pollution puts the future of the country on agenda.

In spite of many positive changes at the last period the situation is not satisfactory in Georgia  with respect to atmospheric air protection. The legislation does not properly answer the existing challenges. As a result we can’t analyze deeply the causes and impacts of pollution and correspondingly, cannot plan and implement efficient measures to decrease air pollution.
